Drywall Repair Basics

Patch small drywall holes cleanly

This guide explains repairing small drywall damage: clean edges, apply patch or tape, mud in thin layers, sand smooth, and prime/paint to blend with the wall.

Prep the hole

Trim loose paper, dust the area, and choose a patch or tape for size.

Apply mud in layers

Spread joint compound thinly, let dry, and add 2-3 layers feathered out.

Sand and inspect

Sand lightly between coats; use a light to check for ridges.

Prime and paint

Prime the patch and paint the area or wall section to blend.
