Inclusive Language Basics

Communicate without excluding

Using inclusive language means avoiding biased terms and stereotypes, using people-first or identity-first where preferred, gender-neutral job titles, and adjusting when someone shares their preference.

Avoid Bias

Skip stereotypes; use gender-neutral terms (firefighter, chair).

Respect Preferences

People-first or identity-first based on context/individual.

Review

Check copy for bias; adjust when given feedback.
