Greenhouse Seed Starting Basics

Start seeds successfully in a small greenhouse

This guide covers choosing seed trays and mix, managing temperature and humidity, providing light, and hardening off seedlings before transplanting.

Prepare trays and mix

Use clean trays with sterile seed-starting mix; moisten before sowing.

Control heat and humidity

Keep most seeds near 70-75?F and use domes briefly; vent to prevent mold.

Provide strong light

Place under grow lights 14-16 hours daily; keep lights a few inches above seedlings.

Harden off before planting

Gradually expose seedlings to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days.
